Flash Flood Warning Issued

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Floyd County in southwestern Virginia, and Eastern Montgomery County in southwestern Virginia Until 345 AM EDT Friday.

* At 741 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated bands of heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and locally 5 inches of rain have fallen since early afternoon. Rainfall rates with this band are 1 to 2 inches per hour, but has been observed to be as high as 3 inches per hour along the crest of the Blue Ridge since 6 pm. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by bands of persistent heavy rain.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

This includes the following streams and drainages: Dan River, Burks Fork, Beaver Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Bonys Run, Big Indian Creek, Calhoun Run, Brake Branch, Brush Creek, Boothe Creek, Crab Creek and Deepwater Creek.
