Ferrell, Betty MillerBetty Jean “Chick” Ferrell (nee Miller) passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 88 in Blacksburg, VA. Born on December 30, 1935, in Williamson, WV, she lived a life marked by independence, kindness, and a deep love for animals.

Betty was renowned for her fun and spunky personality. She cherished her independence and was a beloved mother, aunt, sister, and neighbor. Her home was a hub of warmth and affection and was frequently visited by friends who were like family. Betty’s gentle soul and heart of gold were evident in her love for all animals and birds, and she dedicated much of her life to rescuing furry companions.

She is survived by her son, Mike Ferrell, who remembers her as a pillar of strength and love, and his partner, Jenn O’Neill, and her beloved cat Patty. She is also survived by her niece Melanie Sult and husband Dave, and grand nieces Stephanie (Liam) and Mary (Ricky) and great great niece and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Roger D. Ferrell and nephew Douglas J. Ramey. She was also preceded in death by her parents Ezra and Mary Jane Miller and her eight brothers and sisters Fred Hudson, John L. Hudson, Leonard Hudson, Douglas Hudson, Margaret Hudson Angle, Myrtle Hudson Hinkle, Mary Hudson Ramey and Ezra Ross Miller, and also by her former husbands Jack Ferrell and Milton Baker.

A special thanks goes out to Betty’s beloved neighbors Cindy and Roy Phillips (and their family) and Jerry and Jill Songer whose friendship, love and attention significantly enriched Betty’s life and she considered them family.

A graveside service will be held in Betty’s honor at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, July 2 at 10 AM. McCoy Funeral Home of Blacksburg, VA is overseeing the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory can be made to your local Pet Shelter or Wildlife Rescue, reflecting her lifelong commitment to animal welfare.
