Fatal accident in Montgomery County

On 04/11/2026 at approximately 10 am, Deputies from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office along with  Montgomery County Rescue, Montgomery County Fire and Elliston Fire dept. responded to the 2200 block of Alleghany Spring Rd. in regards to a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The driver of a Jeep Cherokee ran off of the roadway and impacted a mail delivery vehicle(USPS).  Once fire and rescue units arrived on scene it was determined that the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified as James Gordon Norwood of Elliston, was deceased at the time of the collision.

The driver of the mail delivery vehicle was trasported to New River Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

This incident is still under investigation.
