Environmental Superheroes at Touch-A-Truck NRV
Meridian Waste Virginia LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, sent the signal for their environmental superheroes to meet and greet at the Touch-A-Truck NRV event on Saturday, August 14.
The New River Valley Home Builders Association’s Touch-A-Truck New River Valley (NRV) event encouraged attendees to become familiar with building industry careers by offering an educational opportunity to explore trucks, tractors, and heavy machinery while interacting with the people who build, protect, and serve the NRV.
More than 4,000 people attended the event that had in excess of 20 different trucks and heavy machinery displays. Meridian Waste’s goal of the superhero theme was to spotlight the hardworking men and women in the environmental services industry who have worked continuously during the past 18 months to keep communities and neighborhoods clean, green, and safe.
“Our drivers do more than meets the eye, and we want children and families to see the opportunities that an environmental services career can afford them,” said General Manager Ashleigh Garnes. “Our drivers are engaged in logistics, problem-solving, communications and customer care while creating a unique employment opportunity that combines personalized service with an essential community infrastructure need.”
Meridian Waste gave away bubble wands, coloring sheets, crayons, and special stickers that identified the children in attendance as new members of the “Clean Team” for the day. The company also displayed a front-load truck and a container truck for attendees to climb in and get a feel for what it’s like to load toters and containers.
