Thank you all for the many special visits, words of encouragement and uplifting prayers throughout these last few months, you all made the unbearable moments lighter for Sammy and that will never be forgotten. Thanks also to Larry Merrell for opening his heart and home to Sammy when he was in need.

Sammy was a very talented and skilled painter of the Elliott generations, he had an uncanny ability to walk into a room and see what needed to be done, what wasn’t done and how to fix it. That skill set carried Sammy all the way to the end; pointing out things in his hospital rooms that needed to be corrected and making sure everyone knew it! Painting wasn’t just his skill; it was a passion and throughout life he painted beside some of the best in the business.

Sammy was a delight to all that encountered him, his love shined through with every encounter he made. He never met a stranger in any circumstance, if he didn’t know you beforehand he most definitely did by the time you parted, making an unforgettable impression each time. His heart was as golden and true as was his smile, to be in receipt of that smile was something you treasured. He had a very special bond with his sister Donna, one that meant the world to both of them. To be in the presence of their love was to be enamored by the truest of loves, side by side throughout their lives the pair were a force to be reckoned with and envied all at the same time. From flatfooting competitions to family events the two showed the world what sibling love is supposed to be. He treasured and admired her love and devotion to family and she adored him in the same light, truly becoming one another’s rock in every life trial.

Sammy was a dancer and loved to boogie with the best! Sammy shared that love to dance with all of his family and friends and we all have treasured memories of him with that huge smile that he wore while doing it! He loved his family with a deep love, treasured children as they should be, cared for animals of all kinds and knew what friendship meant; giving it freely to all that he loved. HIs love and friendship was one of life’s best treasures. His love for his devoted pup Lucy was just an extension of what Sammy’s love entailed, she stood by him and with him until the end, special thank you to Pat Meador for loving Lucy like Sammy did. We know he left her in the best of care and we are forever grateful to you.

Sammy had unshakable faith in his Lord and Savior with complete trust that he would be standing at the gates of heaven, being welcomed by all that had passed before him. He had made a peace with all that life had given him and fought up until the end with grace, will and faith on his side. We would like to thank each of the ICU doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Montgomery for their care and genuine outpouring of love shown to Sammy and his loved ones throughout some of the most difficult times, your genuine care for him will never be forgotten!

This isn’t a goodbye Sambo….this is a simple, see you later!
