Educational Equity Gathering
On Sunday, September 12, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, the second gathering of interested citizens will take place to continue conversation around matters of educational equity in the Pulaski County Public School system. The theme for this conversation is “The Ripple Effect: How We Got Here and Where Should We Go?” Participants are asked to register in advance for this meeting through the Community Conversation Facebook page.
Conversations will be facilitated by Gary Hash II and will happen at tables of 6 (masks encouraged). Information on equity issues being addressed by the school administration will be shared, such as achievement gaps and discipline disparity. We will hear first person accounts of inequity (how did we get here?) as well as share ideas as to what actions can be taken by community members at large to help support students and families as we all strive for greater equity, inclusion, and diversity in our public school system and community life in general (where should we go?).
We are in community conversation because we want the very best that we can give our students so that they can succeed in school today and life tomorrow. We hope you will return for this event if you attended the first session in July. If you weren’t able to join us then, please consider being part of this continuing conversation on September 12.
There is plenty of space for safely spreading out as we meet at the First United Methodist’s Family Life Center (Jefferson Avenue and Third Street NW). Child care can be arranged as needed for participants (see registration form for more information).
