Dunbar, Larry Lee
Larry Lee Dunbar, 73, of Narrows, VA, left this world on Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was a Christian, first and foremost, a loving husband of 53 years to Donetta, a proud dad, and a doting Papaw and Great Papaw.
One of his favorite things to do in this life was watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports. He and Donetta logged thousands of miles over the course of his lifetime traveling to away games to cheer them on.
He graduated with a degree in Business from Virginia Tech in 1973. He was an avid Hokies fan and his family will definitely attest to his delight in not having to don UVA gear in order to watch his “Sweet Baby” play ball. They have no doubt that he WILL be watching, only in his preferred VT shirt! He loved to spend his spare time hunting and fishing, and he passed that love on to his kids and grandkids.
Larry was a deacon at Lindside Christian Church and he dearly loved his church family. He was a supervisor at the Celco Plant in Narrows for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonidas and Lydia Dunbar and Hampton and Grace Hall.
He is survived by his parents, Jack and Doris Dunbar; his sisters, Becky Hughes and Bobbie (Bill) Steele; his wife, Donetta; his sons, Michael (Emily) Dunbar and Torrey (Amanda) Dunbar; five grandchildren, Todd, Payton, Brody, Kyra, and Spencer; and one great-granddaughter, Hazel. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in law who were more like brothers and sisters – Sharon and Butch Hollaway, Lisa and Ronnie Underwood, Gena and David Boothe, and Todd Higginbotham; also a double first cousin, Perry Hall, whom he loved like a brother, and a special, lifelong friend, Jim Hylton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Minister Randy Penwell and Gary Hazelwood officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, VA. Serving as pallbearers are Butch Hollaway, Ronnie Underwood, Wes Underwood, Todd Dunbar, Brody Dunbar and Spencer Dunbar. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roof Fund, Lindside Christian Church (7469 Seneca Trail South, Lindside, WV 24951).
