Driver, Sidney Millon
Sidney Millon Driver, 84, of Riner, Virginia, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Lewis-Grace Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Durham, NC, the son of the late Roy Driver and Grace Lewis Driver.
His deep love for God, his country, and his family was always present in Sidney throughout his life here on earth. He was a Navy veteran and served his country onboard the USS Providence and on the USS Rowan during the atomic testing in the Pacific. His strength and generosity were witnessed and felt not only by his family, but by his friends, neighbors, and almost anyone who ever had the privilege of crossing his path. He was an individual that one never forgot after meeting him and shaking his hand.
Sid was a hard-working man who owned and operated Farm Services of Riner for many decades. As a deacon at his church for many years, Sid had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his laugh, love of life, his ability to fix almost anything, and his steadfast desire to do whatever God called him to do. Someone once said that you had to earn Sid’s trust, but he was always respectful to others. He was a loving husband, father, brother, father-in-law, grandpa, and friend. Sid will be deeply missed until we again see him in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Gragg Driver, his father, Roy Driver, mother, Grace Lewis Driver, and brother, Timothy Lee Driver.
He is survived by his wife, Grace M. Driver, daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Jeff Brinn, NC, Anita Williams, VA, Karla and Allen Kirk, VA, step-daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Swain, FL, and Cheryl and Robbie Rountree, VA, brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Betty Driver, NC, and Norman and Sheila Driver, NC.; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, VA, with Pastor Shake Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, a cause that Sid was very passionate about.
