Dowdy, Fleta Smith

Fleta Smith Dowdy, age 92, of Blacksburg, went to be with her Savior, on Friday, May 31, 2024. She was born in McCoy, Va., on November 28, 1931, to the late Trigg Lester and Leucetta Whitaker Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Jay Dowdy, Sr., two brothers, Earl and Howard Smith, and her sister Edith Smith Jamison.

She grew up in Centennial Christian Church, McCoy Va., and later became a member of Blacksburg Christian Church. Finally becoming a member of Belmont Christian Church. Fleta was a proud Registered Nurse who took care of many people. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cindy Dowdy, Joe Dowdy, Jeff Dowdy, and Jerry and Robin Dowdy; grandchildren, Jason (Lori), Logan (Katie), Kane, Jeff (Robin), Scott (Karen), and Michele (Kevin), 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jerry Dowdy officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10- 11:00 A.M. before the service.
