Domestic violence call leads to fire
A 30 year-old Dublin man is in custody after reportedly attempting to injure his mother and then pouring gasoline in the house and on an officer and setting it on fire.
Dakota Lewis Sirt, 30, is charged with attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted aggravated malicious wounding, assault on a law enforcement officer and arson of an occupied dwelling, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
Pulaski County deputies were called October 9 to assist Dublin Police with a domestic violence call at a home on Church Street, according to the sheriff’s office. They were told a man was inside, trying to assault his mother with a baseball bat.
When officers went inside the home, Sirt appeared at the top of a stairway with a can of gasoline, which he poured onto the floor and a Dublin officer. He then ignited the gasoline, according to the sheriff’s office.
The lower body of the officer caught fire, along with that area of the home, and the officer and a deputy extinguished the flames. The officer who had been set on fire helped get the suspect’s mother to safety, then was treated at a hospital for treatment of severe burns, according to the sheriff’s office. Dublin PD says he is recovering at home.
Sirt is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
