Daugherty, William Duane

William “Bill” Duane Daugherty, age 73, of Monticello, Arkansas, passed away at his home on July 30, 2023. He was born August 31, 1949, to the late Raymond and Martha Lillian Daugherty in Bluefield, West Virginia.

Before his retirement, Bill was an engineer and holder of several patents for machinery design. He also served in the National Guard as an artillery mechanic for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, helping people in his community, and designing and building things. He was always analyzing and tinkering with ways to improve the world around him. He greatly enjoyed passing on his knowledge and helping others solve problems. In his last years, he faced debilitating back pain and, later, his coming death with courage, dignity, and kindness to others.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Daugherty. William is survived by his son Austin Daugherty, daughter-in-law, Sara Soyars-Daugherty, and a granddaughter, Elena Daugherty.

Visitation and a time of celebrating William’s life will be held from 6:00PM to 6:30PM on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:30PM.
