Craighead, Melissa Rakes
Melissa Rakes Craighead, 53 of Shawsville, passed away April 28, 2024. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mason and Regent Rakes; father, Morris Rakes; and brother, Ricky Rakes.
Missy is survived by her mother, Alice Rakes; husband, Paul Craighead; son, Zachary Craighead; sister, Donna Akers (Todd); aunt, Linda Hollandsworth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Missy worked for Montgomery County for 26 years as a preschool teacher. All of her children knew her as Miss Melissa. Even after they were in high school they remembered her as Miss Melissa. She was a wonderful loving wife and mother and a faithful church member. She was there to help and aid anyone who needed it. She always worried about family and tried to be there as much as possible. When God called her Home He took an angel to where she belongs.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Park United Methodist Church, with Pastors Warren Cash and Mike Sanborn officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.
The family would like to thank all the friends, family, and nurses that were there for her.

I’m so sorry to the entire family for your loss. Missy was a wonderful, kind hearted person and the world is worse off without her in it. I know she is enjoying her reward in Heaven now!

I am going to miss my dear sweet friend. I’m going to miss our hug and I love you when we would see each other in the halls. She always cheered me up. Rest in peace now Sweetie. I love you and miss you already.
