WHAT…For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 10 below. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below possible.

WHERE…In Virginia, Carroll, Floyd, Montgomery, Pulaski, Alleghany VA, and Bath Counties. In West Virginia, Eastern Greenbrier and Monroe Counties.

WHEN…For the Cold Weather Advisory, until noon EST today. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

IMPACTS…The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
