Carl E Hanks Sr. Memorial Fund
The YMCA of Pulaski County wishes to perpetually honor the memory of our past leader, Mr. Carl E Hanks Sr. by establishing a fund to expand the availability of YMCA membership and services to all who desire to use the same. We believe that such an honor is in keeping with both the spirit and examples that were set for us by Mr. Hanks.
This fund would provide for financial awards, based on needs and/or scholarly endeavors, for fully paid or partially paid memberships, tuition, classes, and services. Funds would be utilized for the following financial needs:
- Free or reduced, needs based, membership costs for the YMCA of Pulaski County.
- Free or reduced youth memberships for Pulaski County Students who achieve exemplary scholarly achievement and/or attendance standards.
- Free or reduced tuition rates for those in need of childcare who cannot afford such but are income prohibited from receiving benefits from subsidy providers. (Gap Parents)
- Free or reduced, needs based tuitions for other approved classes or programs
Pulaski YMCA CEO Dave Adkins stated, “We believe that Mr. Hanks would have been proud for his name to be associated with this endeavor that could benefit so many people in our county.”
While this fund will be on-going and accept contributions throughout the year, all the proceeds from our first annual Spring Gala will go directly to this fund. Adkins explained, “all ‘after expense’ proceeds from ticket sales, silent auction items, contributions, and sponsorships will go directly into this fund.”
The First Annual Spring Gala will be held at the “Omni Place Event Center” in Fairlawn on April 26th from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Details are available by calling the YMCA at 540-980-3671, on our Facebook page or our website pulaskiymca.org. Tickets are on sale now.
Additionally, the Board of Directors and CEO of the YMCA of Pulaski would like to further memorialize both Carl and Faye Hanks’ work and dedication to both our YMCA and the Community at large by naming the Gymnasium the “Hanks Family Gymnasium” at the Pulaski County YMCA. This honor will be celebrated on a yet to be determined date in the next couple of months.
Dave Adkins said of the Hanks family; “Carl and Faye Hanks poured heart and soul into the YMCA. Carl was the CEO of our YMCA for many years and his efforts were the driving force that built the Pulaski County YMCA into the organization it is today. His influence is still felt and his memory will be revered and serve to guide our future endeavors. We will remember Carl as a friend, a brother in Christ, a mentor, an innovator, and a great leader. Faye has supported our YMCA as a Board Member and an avid advocate. We are humbled to be able to recognize this family in this manner.”
