Buckland, Carolyn Walker

Carolyn Lee Buckland, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV. Born September 23, 1942, Narrows, VA, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Virginia Johnson Walker.

Carolyn was a member of the Narrows Presbyterian Church. She received a BS in Elementary Education from Concord College and an MS in Communications from West Virginia University. She was a schoolteacher who spent 26 years teaching students, mostly here in Monroe County. She enjoyed quilting, as she was a member of the Sewflake Quilters Club.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 63 years, Marshall Buckland; two daughters, Susan Buckland and husband Scott O’Connell of Pinehurst, NC, and Lynn Sowers and husband Joseph of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, Erin O’Connell, Jaquelyn Tubbs, Jessica Frook, Jennifer Sowers, Sarah Tubbs, and Katheryn Sowers; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Sonny Walker and wife Pam of Greensboro, NC, and George Walker of Bluewell, WV; and two sisters, Gloria Hopkins of Lerona, WV, and Barbara Alvis of Princeton, WV.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Joe Sowers officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
