Brown, Betty Neel 2Betty Brown, age 85, passed away at the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA, on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Born February 21, 1940, in Raven, VA, she was the daughter of the late Everette B. and Randy Osborne Neel. She passed away peacefully from a short battle with colon and bowel cancer and complications from drastic surgical procedures.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill; and two nephews, Matthew Neel and Zachary Dowdy.

Betty spent her working life at Celanese, where she met her loving husband, William D. “Bill” Brown. Betty grew up on a farm and there learned the benefits of hard work and dedication to family and love of life and others. She loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs. She owned many over the years. She enjoyed crafts. In her younger days, she always had lots of beautiful flowers and a big garden, enough to share with friends and family. In later years, her passions were reading, crocheting, and TV.

Survivors include one son, Everette Lee Neel (Missy) of Rich Creek, VA; one sister, Neica Miller of Zenith, WV; two step-sons, David Brown (Pam) and James Brown (Pam Janelle) of Peterstown, WV; one half-sister, Teresa Fletcher (Franklin) of Pearisburg, VA; nephew, Randall Neel (Donna) of Peterstown, WV; niece, Ella Dowdy of Mt. Pleasant, NC; four step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, three great nieces, one great nephew, and a slew of cousins and friends. Betty will be greatly missed for her sense of humor and loving ways.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Michael Biggs officiating. Burial will follow at the Crosier Cemetery in Zenith, WV. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
