Bright, Paula Jo Mizell
Paula Jo Mizell Bright grew up in Washington, NC, but as an adult she lived in Willis, VA. The mountains were always a happy place for her. She certainly had a strong community attachment.
She was born on 9-17-59 and died on 12-25-2023. She was the daughter of Mack Daniel Mizell, Jr and Frances Arnold Mizell.
She married Virgil L. Bright Jr in a beautiful historic church in downtown Little Washington. The couple had no children but filled that spot in their lives with animals that included horses, ponies, cows, donkeys, dogs, cats, rabbits and even a bird.
Paula served her community in several ways. During her early years she worked as a Registered Nurse and would often share stories of the courage she witnessed in the performance of her duties. When she relocated to Virginia, she found other ways to serve her community, like volunteering for meals-on-wheels programs. She and her husband Virgil were loved and missed by many.
Paula lost her husband to heart failure on 9/4/22. Her younger sister, Erin, died unexpectantly at the age of 42 just short of a year after Virgil. Erin died 7-21-23. Five months and 4 days later, Paula lost her battle as well. Paula died on Christmas Day 2023. Paula, Erin and I lost our parents, dad in 1985 and mom in 2006. Paula is survived by her sister, Lori Mizell Chrismon.
Paula Jo was cremated and a private ceremony was held. Her ashes were released to her favorite earthly place.
Paula was a friend to many people and delighted in serving her community. Many people were shocked by her death.
I personally want to apologize for not issuing this notice sooner. It’s tough losing both of your siblings in such a short time. God bless you all.
