Blacksburg vehicle pursuit ends in Roanoke City

On June 21, 2018 at approximately 11:00 pm, a Blacksburg Police officer observed a vehicle exit a parking lot and nearly strike a vehicle that was traveling north bound in the 2200 block of South Main Street. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle on Rt. 460 bypass. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the officer. The vehicle accelerated to speeds approaching 90-mph and proceeded to lead police on a pursuit. The vehicle pursuit continued onto Interstate 81 North bound. Christiansburg Police and the Virginia State Police assisted in the pursuit, which continued into Roanoke County, with speeds reached an excess of 100-mph. Near the 141 mile maker, a Roanoke County Police unit deployed spike strips that were effective in slowing the vehicle to speed of approximately 65-mph. The vehicle continued to I-581 and into Roanoke City. The pursuit ended on Fairfax Avenue in the Roanoke City. The suspect, Terry Quintel Bennett 34 of Roanoke City, was taken into custody without further incident. Charges of, Reckless Driving, Driving Suspended Failure to Yield Right Of Way and Eluding Police were placed on Mr. Bennett. There were no injuries.
