Blacksburg runner wins gold in OlympicsCongratulations to Cole Hocker, who earned a gold medal at the Paris Olympics! The 23 year-old won the men’s 1500-meter run, and his winning time set an Olympic record.

Hocker moved to Blacksburg last fall to reunite with Virginia Tech track and field coach Ben Thomas and train in the New River Valley. He is an Indiana native and former NCAA champion at the University of Oregon. Hocker finished in a personal-best time of 3 minutes 27.65 seconds. The Olympic record was 3:28.32.
