Beliveau Farm wins Gold in Governor’s Cup
The Napa Valley region has been renowned for its award-winning wines. Typically, if one wanted prestigious wines, they would have to travel to California to taste them. When one thinks of delicious red wines, the typical immediate thought is Napa Valley. That is no longer the case; Virginia is now acknowledging award-winning wines. Wineries and Vineyards on the east coast are becoming renowned as must-see wineries. Here at Beliveau Farm, we are one of them.
We reside in the Catawba Valley, just 12 miles from the center of Blacksburg, Virginia. Beliveau Farm has been granted numerous awards for its wines. In 2022 alone, Beliveau Farm placed gold in the Virginia Governor’s Cup for our Syrah Reserve 2019 and Soul Singer 2017 varietal. Virginia Governor’s Cup is famous as “one of the most stringent competitions” in the United States. Virginia Wineries Association hosts this competition. In the preliminary round, the five judges sampled over 600 wines from over 100 Wineries in Virginia. The competition comes down to twelve of the highest average ranked wines being a mixture of red and white. Only one bottle of wine will win the coveted Governor’s Cup, taking place on March 24th. The final judging panel consists of 12 judges. The judges rate the wines on particular criteria, such as appearance, aroma, flavor, overall quality, and commercial suitability. The Soul Singer 2017 varietal consists of bold cherry flavors. The Syrah 2019 Reserve varietal consists of bright and spicy notes with an earthy tobacco aroma. Their ranking system is on a point system; 80 – 84 points qualify as a bronze medal, 85 – 89 points qualify as a silver medal, 90 – 100 points qualify as a gold medal. From the twelve highest average ranked wines become the cup’s case winners.
Virginia Wineries Association showcases the Gold Medal Wine Trail. It is in its second year running. This wine trail points consumers towards the best wines the state offers. For this year’s winners, guests can travel along the Gold Medal Wine Trail, visiting each winery throughout the year until December 31st. Their passport on their website allows one to check in to all the gold medalist wineries and collect individual winery offerings for each visit. Virginia Wine will grant prizes to five check-ins or more. You have the chance to win a free tumbler, hat, apron, and so much more with each check-in you make to the wineries along the Gold Medal Trail.
We are immensely proud to be acknowledged as a 2022 Governor’s Cup Gold Medalist. We hope you enjoy our two gold winners just as much as we do. Come down to the Farm to sip on some of the best red wine the state of Virginia has to offer.
