Battle, Cathy Bower
Ardella Catherine “Cathy” Bower Battle, 85, of Copper Hill, Passed away on Monday October 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Kermit and Edna Clark Bower, husband Lemuel Edwin (Ed) Battle Sr., brother in-law Freddie D Altizer.
Cathy was born in Floyd County Va. on November 6, 1938. As the oldest of two daughters to Kermit and Edna Bower. Cathy grew up in Floyd County and graduated from Check high School in 1957. After graduation she attended and graduated from Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing. On October 24, 1959 she married Lemuel Edwin Battle Sr and in 1961 gave up her nursing career to become a mother of four children, three boys and one girl. She spent the rest of her life dedicated to her husband and family and helping anyone she could. She also continued to work at various careers such as Teachers Aid, Catering, Wedding directing and Cake making. She was an employee of Sues Flower shop until her and her husband bought the business in the 1990’s. She remained owner until she closed the business and retired. She was actively involved in many organizations like Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Sandlot sports, Va. Extension Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary and a life member in the VFW Auxiliary.
Cathy is survived by her children and spouses, Lemuel Battle Jr, Larry Battle (Teresa), Mike Battle (Annette), Nina Battle, one sister Phama Bower Altizer. Grand children: Kimberly Nichols (Andrew), Eric Janney (Amanda), Amanda Turman (Cody), Taylor Griffith (Joe Huffman), Travis Battle, Great Grandchildren: Aaron, Carleigh, Ethan, Ava, Luke, Harper. Nephew Josh Altizer (Brandy), Niece Tera Lephew (Adam) and Great Nephew Avery. Flowers are appreciated or in lieu of flowers donations to the VFW auxiliary.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024, at 12PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastors Mike Battle, Darden battle and Father Patrick Joseph Officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6PM- 8PM at Gardner Funeral Home
