Asbury, Janice Widener
Janice Delores Asbury, 73, of Elliston, Virginia died peacefully at home Sunday, December 1, 2024. Janice was born February 5, 1951 in Welch, West Virginia to William H. Widener and Virginia Sparks Widener.
She worked most of her life in the healthcare profession, retiring from Catawba State Hospital in 2003. Janice had a generous spirit. Once you were her friend, you were a friend for life. She loved being around her family and those she loved, especially at Christmastime. She took pride in her home, gardening, and giving of herself to others.
Besides her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Michael “Tony” Asbury, three brothers, Gene Kelley (Lillian), Robert Kelley, and Larry Kelley, two sisters, Earlene Davis and Wanda Marshall (Ivan). Left to cherish her memory are sons Matt Carter of the home, and Mark Carter of Bluefield, West Virginia, granddaughter Hannah Carter of Bluefield, Virginia, sister Jo Ann Henry (Claude) of Roanoke, Virginia, brother Kenneth Widener (Adam) of Bluefield, West Virginia, several cousins, nieces, nephews, countless friends, and her dog, Dusty whom she loved and adored.
Funeral services will be conducted at McCoy’s Funeral Home in Blacksburg, Virginia on Friday, December 6 with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m, followed by the service from 11:00 a..m to 12 noon. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Rt. 52 in Bluefield, West Virginia. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
