Active Shooter Drill Planned for March 16

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski will host and engage in a Closed Active Shooter Exercise on Thursday, March 16, beginning at 4 pm on the hospital campus.

The intent of this exercise is to prepare and train hospital employees on action steps to be taken, in the event of an unexpected incident with possible mass casualties.

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, along with the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Town of Pulaski Police and Emergency Services, and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Management will activate and manage this closed preparedness activity to emphasize the importance of collaboration and preparation should such an event occur. LewisGale Hospital Pulaski will also be joined by other disaster planning and preparedness partners, including the Red Cross and the Far Southwest Emergency Management Alliance for this training activity.

This closed mock exercise has been in planning stages for months, and all aspects of the drill have been created to make it as realistic as possible, while maintaining full support and care for hospital patients and visitors.

The drill will be announced throughout the hospital multiple times prior to the exercise, and all primary areas where the staged situation will play out will not affect patient care. Additional signage will also be placed outside the hospital, alerting visitors to the drill and ensuring patient and visitor safety.

Please be advised that this event is a closed drill, activated and managed by registered agencies. Mandatory identity verification processes are in place for all registered participants.

Please inform any and all callers that this is a drill only. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Thompson, Marketing/PR Manager with LewisGale Regional Health System at 540‐266‐0917 or .
