Acid spill at Celanese injures six workers

Six people were injured this morning in an acid spill at the Celanese Corporation plant in Narrows. Three are being treated at Carilion Giles Community Hospital; and two are in critical condition, with the third one in stable condition. A fourth victim was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital, and the other two were not hospitalized.There were no fatalities.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the Cellulose Acetate Unit, when acetic acid vapor was released. The cause of the incident will be investigated once the emergency response has cleared.
