McDowell, Vernon Lewis

Vernon Lewis McDowell, 80, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on September 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 4, 1946.

Vernon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors. The beach, lake, racetrack, and soccer field were some of his favorite places. He was a proud veteran and served his country as a marine in the Vietnam War. He also served his community as an honorary member of the Christiansburg and Riner Fire Departments. Vernon was a longtime resident of Christiansburg and owned A & M Auto for over 37 years.

Vernon is preceded in death by his father Dale McDowell.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 56 years Sandra McDowell, mother Anita McDowell, son and wife Kevin and Laura McDowell, grandchildren Faith and Grey McDowell, brother-in-law and wife Don and Gayle Johnson of Acton, Massachusetts.

At Vernon’s request, no funeral services will be held. In his memory, the family asks that any contributions be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Good Samaritan Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
