New Items Accepted in Blacksburg Curbside Recycling 2

Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority (MRSWA) now accepts the following items as recyclable materials; the below items are now also accepted in Blacksburg’s curbside recycling.

#5 Polypropylene (PP) containers
Clam shell containers #1 #2 #5
Gable-top cartons
Aseptic cartons
#5 PP plastic containers are identified with a number “5” within the recycling symbol and sometimes the letters “PP” below. This plastic is typically used for food containers, such as yogurt cups. Prescription medication bottles are also most often made of #5 PP. All containers must be empty and clean to be recycled.

Clam shells are one-piece containers with two halves connected by a built-in hinge. They are typically used for electronics, toys, and food.

Gable-top cartons are paperboard containers with a pointed roof top. They are typically used for refrigerated liquids such as milk and juice.

Aseptic cartons are shelf-stable paperboard containers for food and beverages. They are typically used for milk, juice, soup, and broth.

In the Town of Blacksburg, these items may now be placed in the green recycling bins for home curbside recycling or in any other single-stream recycling.
