Public Meeting for a New Community Center: April 28

Public Meeting for a New Community Center: April 28 2

The Town of Blacksburg is seeking community feedback, thoughts, and ideas on a new Community Center facility. Citizens are invited to be a part of the process. A public engagement meeting will be held on Monday, April 28 from 5-7pm at the Blacksburg Community Center. This is the first step in the process; citizen feedback will help guide the project.

The Town has hired an architectural consulting firm, Kahler Slater, to:

  • Revisit the programming that was included in the 2013 Indoor Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study to reflect current recreational trends, which will assist with determining the overall size of the future new building.
  • Provide recommendations for a location for the future new facility within the Municipal Park or the Old High School site (both located on Patrick Henry Drive).
  • Offer suggestions on the addition or replacement of park amenities that are housed on both sites.
  • Provide recommendations to modernize the current Community Center.
  • Develop a comprehensive project cost estimate to support future planning and decision-making.

Opportunities for engagement for this project will extend beyond this public meeting.
Online Survey: On Monday, April 28, an online survey will be available on Let’s Talk Blacksburg for those who prefer a virtual feedback option, and a project page with more details will be published. An announcement about the survey with a direct link will be sent out when it is available.
