Rose, Jacqueline Huffman

Rose, Jacqueline HuffmanJacqueline Huffman Rose, formerly of Newport, Virginia; a cherished and beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 94, in Collinsville, Virginia. She was born on January 15, 1930, in Craig County, Virginia, to Howard and Venus Osborne Huffman, and grew up surrounded by the love and camaraderie of her siblings.

Jacqueline’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community. She was the loving mother of three children – Karen Matthews (Paul), Tim Rose (Sallie), and Darrell Rose (Robin). Her role as a grandmother to Jessie Richardson, Jenna Richardson, William Rose, Thomas Rose, and Angelia Dewald; and great-grandmother to Keffer Rose, Konnor Dewald, Vanessa Johnson, and Pablo Rose was one of her most treasured. She was a source of wisdom, comfort, and joy in their lives. Although she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Howard Junior Huffman, Bobby Huffman, Charles Huffman, Claudine Estes, and Geraldine Harless, the legacy of her kind and nurturing spirit lives on through her family.

Professionally, Jacqueline left a lasting impact through her years of dedicated service in the Food Science Department at Virginia Tech. Her colleagues and the many students she encountered over the years will remember fondly.

A woman of faith, Jacqueline was a devoted member of the Newport First Christian Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and her approach to every challenge and joy she encountered. The church community was her extended family, a source of strength and fellowship that she cherished deeply.

Jacqueline’s love for the natural world was evident in her hobbies. She found peace and pleasure in the simple acts of tending to her flowers and working in her garden, nurturing growth and beauty with every touch. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and skill, bursting with color and life, much like Jacqueline herself. She also had a keen mind that delighted in the challenges of puzzles.
