Price, Arthur Henderson

Price, Arthur HendersonArthur Henderson Price, a cherished and respected member of the Newport community, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024 in Pearisburg, Virginia, at the age of 75. Born on March 15, 1949, in Virginia, Arthur lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a strong work ethic, and a love for the simple pleasures in life.

Arthur was a man whose presence was characterized by a quiet strength and reliability. His beloved wife of fifty-one years, Edna Virginia Bailey Price, stood by his side in a loving marriage that was a testament to partnership and mutual respect. Together, they raised a family that includes their son, Robert Henderson Price, married to Tina, and daughter, Hollie Melinda Price McCroskey, married to Tracy. Arthur was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who all brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

He was the steady pillar of the Price family, which includes his brother, Robert Price and his wife Sue, and his sister, Nancy Mcelyea and her husband James. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Oliph and Louis Price, and his brothers, Earl and Charles Price. His extended family of several nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends will remember him for his generosity, wisdom, and the warmth of his company.

Arthur’s formative years were spent in the company of his siblings and friends in Virginia. He grew up to serve his country with honor in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and duty that he carried into his civilian life. After serving, he became self-employed as a carpenter, a trade that showcased his meticulous attention to detail and his unwavering commitment to quality. His work not only provided for his family but also helped build the community he loved.

Beyond his professional life, Arthur was a man of many interests. He had a lifelong affinity for the outdoors, with farming being a passion that connected him to the land and the cycles of nature. Construction projects were not just a job for Arthur; they were also a hobby that allowed him to channel his creativity and skill. In his leisure time, he could often be found playing cards with friends, a pastime that was as much about camaraderie as it was about the game itself.

Arthur also found joy in going to auctions, where he enjoyed the thrill of the hunt for unique finds and treasures. Camping was another activity that he loved, providing him with an opportunity to unplug from the world and enjoy the serenity of nature. In his earlier years, fishing was a favored pursuit, offering moments of reflection and patience by the water’s edge.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date by family. A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Price family.
