In the wake of the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene, United Way of Southwest Virginia (UWSWVA) has stepped forward as the lead organization to raise funding for the emergency response and long-term recovery efforts in Southwest Virginia.

With homes destroyed, livelihoods disrupted, and communities left to rebuild, Southwest Virginia families need emergency support for the challenging days and weeks to come. UWSWVA urges donors to consider financial gifts, as this allows the boots on the ground to secure exactly what is needed, when it is needed, to help families recover and rebuild.

“Our hearts go out to the families and individuals who have suffered unimaginable loss,” said Megan Parks, United Way of Southwest Virginia Executive Director. “At a time like this, it’s critical that we come together as a community to offer material support, compassion, and hope for the future. Every donation, no matter how small, will help rebuild lives.”

UWSWVA has initiated the 2024 SWVA Regional Disaster Relief Fund and will seed the first $25,000. All proceeds will directly support relief and recovery programs. The organization is collaborating with local government agencies, businesses, and fellow non-profits to ensure aid reaches those most in need swiftly and efficiently.

UWSWVA is calling on individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute to the relief effort by donating on the UWSWVA website. All funds will be allocated to both immediate relief efforts and long-term recovery initiatives, ensuring that no family is left behind in the rebuilding process.
