River Flood Advisory

The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Virginia:

• New River Near Galax affecting City of Galax, Grayson and Carroll independent cities.
• New River AT Allisonia affecting Wythe and Pulaski Counties.
• New River At Radford affecting City of Radford, Montgomery and Pulaski independent cities.
• For the New River…including Galax, Allisonia, Radford, Glen Lyn, Hinton…Major flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports and pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.

* WHAT…Major flooding is forecast.

* WHERE…New River at Radford.

* WHEN…From this morning to Sunday evening.

* IMPACTS…At 22.0 feet, Water approaches the main road in Bissett
Park.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 3:15 AM EDT Friday the stage was 12.0 feet and rising.
– Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet.
– Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage
late this morning to a crest of 23.5 feet tomorrow evening.
It will then fall below flood stage early Sunday afternoon.
– Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
– Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of
23.8 feet on 10/12/2018.
