Simpkins, Samuel Anderson
Samuel Anderson Simpkins, 81, of Radford, passed away on June 12, 2024, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side. Through his creative entrepreneurship, his photography, his years of building, and varied traveling, Sam touched many lives. He loved the life God gave him and lived it to the fullest.
Sam was a member of the Laurel Hill Church of Christ and winter member of the Palm Beach Lakes Church of Christ in Florida. Sam and Peggy enjoyed going to Hawaii, snowbirding in Florida, attending blue grass festivals, cruising, watching VT Hokie athletics, and making new friends wherever they went. Family was of utmost importance to Sam. He was a loving husband of 62 years to his wife, Peggy Martin Simpkins, and devoted father to his son, Jeff.
Sam was a man of faith, generous with his time and talent, involving himself in various projects for the church family he loved. He was known for his keen sense of humor and was always eager to share a funny story. At family gatherings, he was the life of the party. Never at a loss for words, he knew how to put others at ease with kindness.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Mildred Simpkins, sister Shelby Roberts (Bobby), brothers Herbert and Travis, and brother-in-law A.W. Martin. He is also survived by his brothers Nelson (Deborah) and Don, Christiansburg, sisters Linda Smith (Bob) Riner, and Teresa Davis, Christiansburg, sisters-in-law Gail Simpkins, Radford, Joan Thompson (John), Florida, Regina Martin, Salem, brother-in-law Bob Martin (Wanda), Salem, and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, He was “Grammy Am” to Dr. Kyle Moran, Connor and Sami, and their parents Stuart and Monica Moran.
The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be in the Horne chapel on Saturday at 2:00 p.m, with Blake Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Church Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of Sam’s passing
He gave me my first job at Burlington mills. Worked there 17 plus years.He was a good man. So sorry for your loss peggy.

Sam was such a good man never met a stranger. him and his wife did my wedding pictures 42 years ago whenever I saw both of them a loving couple they always remembered . wishing everyone peace and good memories Debbie
