Patricia D. Carbaugh, affectionately known as Patsy, formerly of Eggleston, VA passed away serenely on May 3, 2024, at the age of 80, in the comforting surroundings and with the loving staff of Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV. Born on May 21, 1943, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Patsy was a beacon of joy and a source of unwavering support to all who knew her.
Patsy’s early years were spent in the scenic town of Pearisburg, where she grew up with the love and guidance of her parents, Charles and Phyllis Stump Gusler. She graduated with the Pearisburg High School Class of 1961, as a spirited Red Devils. Patsy’s warm smile and kind demeanor were hallmarks of her personality throughout her life.
After completing her education, Patsy dedicated over 23 years to the Giles County Public Schools as a secretary, where she was respected and cherished for her professionalism, empathy, and unwavering commitment to the school community. Her work was not just a job but a testament to her belief in the power of education and the importance of nurturing young minds.
Patsy’s life was rich with love and shared experiences. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Fred Carbaugh, affectionately known as Woody, and a loving mother to her sons, Tony and the late Todd Carbaugh. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Patsy’s legacy continues through her son, Tony, his wife Cindy, and her adored grandson, Tanner, and his wife, Emily. She also held a special place in her heart for her dear family friends, Pee Wee and David Sweeney, as well as her several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins, who will all miss her deeply.
Patsy’s zest for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. She was an avid golfer, often found on the greens, perfecting her swing and enjoying the camaraderie of the game. Her enthusiasm for sports extended to watching her grandson, Tanner, play golf, an activity that brought her immense pride and joy. Patsy was also a fan of various sporting events, her competitive spirit and support for her teams unwavering.
Music and dance were other sources of happiness for Patsy. She found great pleasure in listening to her favorite tunes and dancing around the house. Her spontaneous dance sessions were a testament to her belief in living life to the fullest and finding joy in the simplest of moments.
Preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Woody, her son Todd, and her brother Rodney Gusler, Patsy’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her laughter, kindness, and the love she shared with so many will echo through the lives of her family and friends.

The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 12:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Poff officiating.
