Francis, Julia Stephens

Julia Mae Francis, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV. Born October 18, 1926, in White Gate, VA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Grayson and Mary Alice Poff Stephens.

Julia was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Ballard, WV. She worked as a yarn examiner at Celanese in Narrows, VA. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Woodrow Vance Stephens, Basil Stephens, Samuel Grayson Stephens Jr., John Edward Stephens, and Dean Johnson Stephens; and four sisters, Mary E. Stephens, Margaret Jane Runions, Catherine Ratcliff, and Genoia Louise Snider.

Survivors include one son, C.G. Thomas and wife Eugena of Princeton, WV; two daughters, Angie Bernstein of Ballard, WV, and Vickie Chambers and husband Mickey of Fairfield, VA; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

In keeping with Julia’s wishes, she will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
