Huff, Bobby Monroe

Huff, Bobby Monroe 4Bobby Monroe Huff (aka Big Bobby), 89 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. Bobby is the son of the late Moiear and Verla Huff of Floyd, VA.

He was born blue eyed and full of life on January 9th, 1935 in a small tight knit mountain community known as Pizarro (Franklin Pike Area), within Floyd County. Here he would build his next 89 years of life on his family farm. He came from a community of hard workers that would be engrained in him at a very young age.

He started work at age 15 on a chauffeur license hauling timber for Morton & Curtis Turner out of Maryland back to Martinsville, VA for furniture industries for several years. He could tell some good Curtis Turner stories from back in the day. Growing up in the community, he always helped anyone who needed a helping hand. He was machinist by trade and a farmer by heart but these two loves would take him thru a lifetime that he absolutely adored.

He met his love of his life and his high school sweetheart Ravanal N. Huff getting married on February 18, 1956. Bobby was known far, near for his machinist skills, and had done work for Lee Petty, the Wood Bros, Junior Johnson and many more. He worked for Shepherd Auto Parts & Franklin Auto Parts for many years running a machine shop until retiring in June 2000.

He enjoyed his retirement years farming, gardening, and buzzing around on his UTV, sharing stories of days gone by and being with his children & grandchildren to all of their numerous activities. He had a love for the simple countryside and saw the beauty within many things in the world whether it was animals, tractors, antique cars, and antiques.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ravanal N. Huff; one son & daughter-in-law, Bobby Lane & Sandy Huff; one daughter & son-in-law, Stephanie & Kenny Yates; four grandchildren, Courtney & Zach Cox, Robert & Bridget Huff, Presley Yates (Olivia Hylton) and Olivia Yates (Brady Atkins) and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Layni Cox. Sister & Brother – in-laws Donna & Glenwood Martin, Judy & Denny Wells, Charles Kingrea and many numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 12 pm at Gardner Funeral Home with Rob Musser officiating. Interment will follow with a private family & community graveside service at Huff Farm Cemetery (Paradise Lane). There will be a visitation one hour prior to service time at Gardner Funeral Home at 11 am.
