Keffer III, James Leslie 4James Leslie Keffer III, a believer in Christ, a beloved husband, father, brother, and community leader, passed away on February 9th, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1946, James was preceded by James “Mouse” Keffer II and Margaret Keffer.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn F. Keffer, his loving sons Christopher Keffer and Gregory Keffer, his brother Raymond Keffer, sister Carolyn Bess, and cherished grandchildren Madison Keffer and Carter Keffer.

James honorably served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a successful career. He spent 27 years at Dupont in Richmond, Virginia, where he served as a Union Steward and worked in Vibration Analysis. Later, he joined Philip Morris until his retirement.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, James made a significant impact as a coach and mentor in the Chester League Baseball association, where he served as a Commissioner. His guidance and encouragement touched the lives of countless individuals.

James established his family home in Chester, Virginia, before eventually settling in Mathews County, where he found solace in the serene view of the river from his living room. An avid outdoorsman, he loved deer hunting, fishing, and passionately supported the Virginia Tech Hokies.

In retirement, James found joy in Florida, where he could indulge in his hobbies of golfing and fishing, all while relishing quality time with Carolyn, family, and friends. His commitment to service extended beyond retirement, as evidenced by his leadership role in the Chester Civitan Club and active involvement in the American Legion.

James Leslie Keffer III will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, leadership, and sportsmanship will forever endure in the hearts of those he touched. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and community during this difficult time.

Services will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W., Blacksburg, VA 24060 on Thursday 2/15 from 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm. The Funeral will begin at 11:00 am Friday 2/16 at McCoy Funeral Home followed by a graveside service.
