McPeak, Carolyn Reed
Carolyn Reed McPeak, 76, of Hardy, VA., born on September 9th, 1947; passed away peacefully at her mother’s home on January 25th, 2024. Carolyn had fought a hard battle with Alzheimer’s for many years but was always determined to never let it get the best of her. She is no longer suffering and at peace, rejoicing with her Lord Jesus Christ.
Carolyn was a hard working woman all her life as she inherited that trait from her mother, Pauline. She fought for and worked hard at her job at Norfolk Southern, then later retired from after 30+ years as a payroll clerk. Even after Carolyn retired she still never rested; she was always finding new projects to complete, mostly for others.
Anyone who knew Carolyn knew she didn’t just love the outdoors, but was obsessed with it. There was nothing that she didn’t or couldn’t do: skiing, boating/jetskiing, hunting, traveling, swimming in the lake by her house, garden/landscaping her and her mothers home, and most importantly Carolyn loved to hike. Hiking was her passion and as she said “Hiking was a spiritual experience for me, I’ve learned that I walk to fill my heart with wonder and to feed my soul.”
Though she had many unique qualities, the most important thing about her was her compassionate heart. Carolyn lived her life just to make others happy and laugh. All she ever did in her life was give to others, especially to her mother. Her mother was her best friend and whom she spent most of her time with and caring for. Now she gets to rejoice and spend eternity with her in Heaven.
Proceeded in death by her husband, Archie McPeak brother, Carlos Reed; beloved parents, Howard and Pauline Reed; grandparents Henry and Mamie Link; and many aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish her memory is her aunts, Patricia Nichols (Freddie), Etta Mae Hall; special sister in-law, Evelyn Vest (Michael); Nephews, Ken Reed (Nicole), Aaron Reed; Great Nieces and Nephews, Kaleb Reed, Alexis Thorne (Tyler), Tiara Gillespie (Tristan); one great-great niece, Oakley Thorne; and son at heart, A.J Mcpeak.
Special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for coming and helping us in her last days and making her feel as comfortable as she could be.
