Griggs, Donald Ray

Donald Ray Griggs, 84 of Pearisburg, VA departed this life January 11, 2024 in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital. Born in West Virginia on December 24, 1939, he is a son of the late William Woodrow Griggs and Eva Gillespie Griggs.

Donald enjoyed watching his westerns, gardening, sitting on the porch, watching his favorite football team the New York Giants play; fishing; playing horseshoes; but his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be River and Ian’s Pappy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Corenie Young Griggs; son, Johnny Ray Griggs; brothers, Arthur, Lyle, Lonnie, Leon, and Roger Griggs; and sister, Sylvia Mustard.

Left to cherish his memories to their hearts are his three daughters, Lisa Tolbert (Joe) of Shawsville, Donna Griggs of Pearisburg, and Tammy Fletcher (Chris) of Pearisburg; daughter-in-law, Teresa Griggs; 7 grandchildren; Stephanie Price (Joe), Jonathan Griggs, Christopher Lucas, Savannah Fletcher, Shane Fletcher, Brandon Griggs, and Tyler Rice; 4 great grandchildren that he cherished, Ian Price, Addison Lucas, River Quesenberry, Weston Griggs; brother, Daniel Griggs; sisters, Pat Stevers, Mary Johnson, and Drema Hamblin; brother-in-law, James Mustard; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Griggs; and companion Sparky.

There will be a time of visitation where the family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Funeral services will conclude in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA.
