LewisGale Pulaski Marks 50th Anniversary

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski marked its 50th Anniversary with a celebration event at the hospital for staff and community leaders to commemorate five decades of comprehensive healthcare.

“Since its inception more than 100 years ago, and since opening our current hospital 50 years ago, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski has remained focused on providing superior care for patients and their families,” said Sean Pressman, chief executive officer. “With an incredibly rich history as our foundation, we look forward to continuing to share high quality service and technological advancements with our small town.”

During the event, Town of Pulaski Mayor Shannon Collins issued a formal proclamation in honor of the 50 years of service LewisGale Hospital Pulaski has provided to the community at its current location. Mayor Collins thanked LewisGale Hospital Pulaski for its work to meet the increased demand for healthcare by expanding its services and continuing to support those services and programs that have bettered the community.

“We are honored to receive this proclamation from the mayor and are sincerely appreciative to everyone who helped us celebrate this significant milestone,” said Karanita Ojomo, MD, board of trustees’ chair. “Without the support of our healthcare partners, and most importantly the patients who choose our hospital, this achievement would not have been possible.”

The celebration included a “gauze-cutting ceremony,” a recreation of how the hospital opened the new facility in 1973. The hospital started in 1915 as Pulaski Community Hospital, a small seven-bed cottage hospital. It then grew into a new hospital on Randolph Avenue before moving to the current hospital on Route 11. At the time it cost $3 million to build. Today, the hospital employs more than 400 colleagues and is home to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute.
