8/9-10: Newport Agricultural Fair

The 84th Newport Agricultural Fair will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 and Saturday, August 10, 2019 on the grounds of the Newport Recreation Center in Giles County, VA.

Built on traditions, the Newport Fair is Virginia’s oldest Agricultural Fair celebrating life the way it was, and blending a touch of the past with our present while teaching others for the future.

Enjoy lots of traditional agriculture fair contest categories to enter including produce, baking, sewing & fancy work, flower show, arts, crafts & hobbies, good food, live music, displays, vendors, friends and community! And don’t forget our fireworks on Saturday night!

Friday Schedule:
• 4:00-8:00 pm: Exhibit Entries
• 5:00 pm: Livestock Show
• 6:00 pm: Children’s Pet Show
• 7:00 pm: Live Music from Tender Mercies
• 7:00 pm: Newport Pageant
• 8:00 pm: Draft Horse Pull
• 8:00 pm: Judging of Exhibits

All exhibits will be located downstairs and in the Rescue Squad Hall.

Saturday Schedule:
• 9:00 am: Fun Horse Show
• 10:00 am: Youth Games (Ages 1-12)
• 10:00 am – 3:00 pm: Live Raptor & Reptile Exhibit
• 1:00 pm: Games for All Ages
• 1:30 pm: History of Newport Presentation (Auditorium)
• 2:00 pm: Old Time Forestry Field Day & Competition (Horse Ring)
• 3:00 pm: Cake Walk (Cafeteria)
• 5:00 pm: Jousting Tournament
• 7:00 pm: Live Music from Half Throttle
• ~9:00 pm: Fireworks (at dusk)

To enter the games, participants need to sign up at least 30 minutes prior to session start time. Cash prizes will be awarded from $1.00-$3.00 for 1st-3rd place winners.

*Note: For ages 1-6 Boys and Girls will be divided in divisions

Enjoy a slide presentation of the history of Newport from Doug Martin titled “A Newport History—Lest We Forget” inside the Newport Rec Center Auditorium.

The Old Time Forestry Field Day competitions include two person crosscut saw, log splitting, one person bow saw for both men and women respectively and mixed couple crosscut saw and poll toss.

All exhibits will be located downstairs and in the Rescue Squad Hall.

There will be a free shuttle from the First Christian Church to the Newport Ball Park, on Friday from 6:00 pm until midnight and on Saturday from 9:00 am until midnight.

In case of rain, only individual outdoor events may be affected, all other events will proceed as scheduled.

All pets entering the fairgrounds must be caged or leashed.

The Newport Pageant will feature the Littlest Miss, Little Miss Newport, Jr. Miss Newport and Miss Newport and will be held in the Community Center Auditorium. Admission to the Newport Pageant is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
