7/20: Small Town Summer Concert
The Town of Floyd’s “A Small Town Summer” Event Series will continue Thursday night, July 20th at 6 PM. This will be the fourth event in a series of free events taking place in The Warren G Lineberry Park throughout the summer months. The theme this week will be a FloydFest Soundcheck, featuring 3 “On the Rise” bands, including last year’s winner Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey, plus Mama Said String Band and Morgan Wade & The Stepbrothers.
The Town of Floyd is producing a series of free events designed to provide a fun, family-friendly atmosphere in The Warren G Lineberry Park. These events will take place on alternating Thursdays from early June to the end of August and will feature, music, movies, and theater productions with lots of additional activities provided to highlight the park and community organizations.
The series will continue on Thursday, July 20th with a special FloydFest collaboration that will place 3 great bands in downtown Floyd’s Warren G Lineberry Park in order to get warmed up for FloydFest 2017. Get in the mood for FloydFest a week early by enjoying three of Floyd Fest’s “On The Rise” bands: Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey, Morgan Wade & The Stepbrothers & The Mama Said String Band.
“We are pleased to work with the Town of Floyd to offer a taste of the spectacular lineup for FloydFest 17~Freedom. We have carefully selected three On-The-Rise bands who represent what we love most about up and coming musicians — the drive of the hungry artist. We look forward to seeing everyone at Warren G. Lineberry Park on July 20, and again on the mountain at FloydFest 17~Freedom, from July 26-30.” says Floyd Fest founder and producer Kris Hodges.
Since childhood Morgan Wade has been writing and playing her songs. But it was not until 2013 that made her debut, in an attempt to win back a lost love. That is when other people began to notice her gutsy voice and intense lyrics. She soon began working other musicians and cultivating a unique sound of rock n roll, with a country twang. Morgan Wade & The Stepbrothers was soon born and began playing in early 2015, with members hailing from Floyd and Roanoke, Va. They then released their EP Let Me Rest and are continuing to grow in the music scene.
Mama Said String Band is a five piece group based out of Louisville, Kentucky. Their combined musical backgrounds, spanning multiple cultures, styles and genres, with a strong focus on vocal harmony, create a unique medley of sound. They gather influence from Bluegrass, Folk, Alternative, Gospel, and R&B. Before they called themselves a band, they shared a love for campfire jams and traveling together playing music wherever they found themselves. Now, as a band, they hope to explore and expand their sound and wanderlust, while hanging on to the campfire roots.
Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey is currently based in Wilmington, NC. Rebekah is a gifted performer with a natural, soulful, and effortless voice and two releases under her belt, releasing her debut EP Forget Me Not in 2011, first LP Roots Bury Deep in 2014 and most recent full length Crooked Lines in February, 2017. Playing over 170 gigs in 12 short months, her band Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey won the On The Rise series for FloydFest 2016 and are set to play the mainstage in 2017 alongside acts such as St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Shovels and Rope, Turkuaz and more.
At all Floyd Small Town Summer events there will be food vendors, community organizations, face painting, games, inflatables and fun activities for all ages! Some of the community organizations partnering this week to provide activities include: Younglife/Wyldlife, Plenty, Blue Mountain School, Preserve Floyd, Floyd County Humane Society and more!
The Town of Floyd’s Small Town Summer Event Series is free and open to the public. The park will be open and access provided to the public starting at 6 PM on all Floyd Small Town Summer events.
