7/13: Second Saturday Workshop
Fine Arts Center for the NRV offers Second Saturday Workshop on “Batik” – July 13, 2-4pm. Batik is both an art and a craft, which is becoming ever more popular and well known among contemporary artists all over the world, as a wonderfully creative medium.
The art of decorating cloth using wax and dye, has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world including China, Japan, India, South America and Europe.
This class will allow the student to investigate Batik wax resist painting techniques using 100% cotton fabric (17×17 handkerchiefs). We will stabilize the fabric on 10-inch embroidery hoops.
Dr. Kim will provide background and demonstrate techniques. Each student should come with a design to transfer to the fabric (remember: 10 inches in diameter). Simple designs would be best for our first time.
This class will be offered in person at the Fine Arts Center (21 W. Main Street, Pulaski), class sized is limited to 8 students. Led by Dr. Kim Lewis. Register by July 11 at this link. Cost: $32 includes instruction and materials.
