6/24: GiveLocal to benefit Springhouse

Springhouse’s biggest fundraising effort of the year is underway. Give Local NRV is a yearly giving day hosted by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) for regional non-profits. This year, as a culmination of the fundraising campaign, Springhouse is hosting a virtual storytelling event on the giving day, Wednesday, June 24th from 7pm to 8:30pm.

The storytelling event will include diverse stories, including those from Springhouse learners as well as from the broader community. There will also be an unveiling of a community art project and a special musical performance by Shana Tucker, a cellist/singer-songwriter who has opened for internationally-acclaimed artists including Norah Jones, Lisa Fischer, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Hamiet Bluett, Javon Jackson, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Indigo Girls. Shana’s melodies weave strong hints of jazz, classical, soulful folk, acoustic pop, and a touch of R&B into a distinctive rhythmic tapestry.

Springhouse knows the power of story – and how stories help challenge, inspire, and unite communities. Through The Falcon and the Branch, Springhouse’s theme story for the event, we learn that often inner potential is revealed through challenges and difficulty. Many of the stories that are shared describe accounts of self-discovery through hardship, accepting the invitation to unknown and vulnerable experiences, and learning to fly in the ways that are unique to the individual. The Falcon and the Branch story can be found on Springhouse’s website where there is also a place for people to share their own story. Details at www.springhousecommunityschool.org/connect.
