And, bring instruments for campfire jamming. Come on out and be part of something very fun, special, unique and all for a great cause!
Music Road Company is a Floyd, VA based band that plays a great music featuring elements of rock, funk, reggae and fun for your dancing and listening pleasure designed to groove and move you. Featuring members of both Spoon Fight and the Color J.
Coming from such diverse places as South Africa, Ecuador, Key West, Maryland and Virginia, the band brings many cultural influences together to produce music without boundaries. Moving fluidly from funk to reggae, rock to afrobeat, their sound bounces from blues and soul to island dance and back again, bound together by one common ideal: Music should feel good and spread positive vibes. They get on stage to lift themselves up to a higher frequency and they won’t stop until they bring the entire audience with them
Music Road Company is a cooperative of common creative companions conspiring to command your cognitive locomotion. This crew digs through a wide and deep catalog of tunes and musical traditions to get you groovin’ and your hip bones movin’!
Morgan Wade exploded onto the Southwest Virginia music scene two years ago playing a blend of country, folk and high-energy Americana and jamming with a rotating group of musicians. She was immediately noticed for her tremendous song writing and powerful voice.
Bassist Ed McGee and mandolin player Joe Link have been with Morgan from the beginning and added veteran rockers Drew Sprinkle on guitar and Bengy Wagner on drums to form the Morgan Wade and The Stepbrothers. The formation of the Stepbrothers allowed Morgan to front a harder-edged, yet professional stage show.
Although Morgan still plays to her Americana roots, the music is driven by sensitive and penetrating lyrics and a tight, electrifying rock band. Morgan Wade and the Stepbrothers deliver an intersection of rock, country, and folk that reflects the beauty, anger, hunger, and hope of coming of age in modern Appalachia.
Saturday Band Line-Up:
• Hoppie Vaughan & The Ministers of Soul
• Little Shiver
• Junior Varsity
• Mary Jo & Charley Show with Ron and Tommy
• The Wildmans
• Virginia Hollow
• Seph Custer
• JAMS (Junior Appalachian Musicians)
The diversely talented Hoppie Vaughan is all about the soul! He is a blue eyed soul singer, song writer, guitar and bass player. The Ministers of Soul based out of Roanoke, VA perform Classic Soul, R&B, Blues & Funk.
Little Shiver is a harmony vocals and guitars duo based in Floyd, Virginia performing contemporary folk music, Americana and country. The band blends magic and mystery into melody, plays thought provoking, entertaining original music written by it’s members, all of whom call Floyd home.
You are sure to love the creative and intricate leads of Bob Dillard, a lifelong guitarist, who brings excitement to the stage with his enthusiasm and skill. The sensitive and seductive bass accompaniments of Christopher Luster, playing electric stand up fretless bass, often surprisingly with a bow, and the warm haunting voice of singer, Stella Trudel, whose professionally trained voice and original lyrics weave stories into harmonies that stir emotions and leave listeners wanting more.
Special guests, duet singer and guitarist Johnny Sutherland, and/or harmonica player Lanny Bean, often join Little Shiver on stage.
The Wildmans, an acoustic string band hailing from the hills of Floyd, VA, in the heart of the Appalachian mountain music tradition, take inspiration from the old masters like Bill Monroe, Kenny Baker and Doc Watson, as well as many modern and non-traditional artists such as Chris Thile and Lake Street Dive. From campsite jamming at festivals and fiddler’s conventions and classical music education comes the foundation for musical exploration that sets this group apart, taking the audience on a musical journey that reflects the growth and passion of these talented young musicians.
The band has been performing regionally since 2011 and features the award winning talents of siblings Eli on mandolin and Aila on fiddle and vocals, joined by young banjo phenomenon Victor Furtado and backed up by bandmom Deb Wildman on bass. Highly skilled instrumentals and soulful vocals applied to traditional bluegrass tunes with a smattering of old time, blues, and jazz combine to create a fresh new sound – old tunes fueled by young spirit.
Virginia Hollow is an Indie, Newgrass, Americana, Bluegrass and Folk Rock band from Floyd, Virginia.
Virginia Hollow is a band and a sound born from the hills, valleys and mountains of Appalachia. Their performances and music take you on a journey fraught with raw emotions and stories of love, trust, betrayal and longing. When all is said and done, the haunting melodies of Carrie Hinkley’s soulful voice are hard to shake off and instead keep returning and replaying in one’s mind, like an untamed mantra of beauty and tragedy. This is a band whose time has come and needs to be reckoned with.
Seph Custer is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Boones Mill, Virginia, offering a fresh look at American and handmade tunes. With many years of experience arranging music for groups in Southwest Virginia, as well as backing up groups and artists on stage, he’s combined his talents to offer a diverse variety of acoustic songs, full-band jams, and intriguing covers.
For his first seven years in music, his career revolved around playing lead guitar, banjo, slide and mandolin for numerous rock, Americana, blues, punk, alternative, and traditional bands. He’s fined tuned his sound over the course of two studio albums and over 600 live shows, combining his diverse music taste with his skill set from several instruments; all delivered with only vocals and a modified guitar.
Seph has been featured in The Floyd Country Store’s annual tribute concerts, covering Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Carole King, and Paul Simon. In 2015, Seph’s music was so well received at Callaway Brewing Company, they named a small batch German Wheat Ale “Sepheweissen.” Seph Custer & The Papa Tom Band were included in Floydfest’s 2017 “Artists on the Rise” competition. In 2018, he became a member of Brackish Water Jamboree playing mandolin, joined them on tour, and performed alongside them in the “Rockn’ to Lockn” competition. He’s also appeared in Virginia Brew Hub Magazine, Appalachian Jamwich Magazine, The Roanoke Times, Blue Ridge Rocks, City Magazine, Roanoke’s Down By Downtown festival, The Nor-folk Festival, Pink Moon Festival, Blacksburg’s Rock the Blocks and Steppin’ Out Festivals, and WDVX’s Blue Plate Special.
As well as being a performer and composer, Seph teaches acoustic & electric guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, bass, violin, slide guitar, lap steel, dobro, and music theory at Downtown Music in Rocky Mount, The Handmade Music School at The Floyd Country Store, and Fret Mill in Downtown Roanoke.
