The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its April chamber membership lunch meeting on Monday, April 24th, at noon in the Skyline Bank (Bank of Floyd) Community Room. The meeting will include introduction of new chamber members and networking, provide updates on the Visitor Guide and the Visitor Center. Lunch is sponsored by the Floyd Lodging Association. This meeting is open to the Floyd business community. To assist with meal planning purposes, please RSVP to the Chamber office at 745-4407 or info@floydchamber.org, by Friday, April 21st, if interested in attending.

The Floyd Lodging Association was founded in 2010 shortly after the idea was raised at a chamber membership lunch meeting. The association quickly formed a membership of Floyd County lodging business along with others nearby. The association’s website, FloydVirginiaLodging.com, provides a listing of association members that offer lodging options. “The website is a great resource,” points out John McEnhill, Executive Director of the chamber. “The website is well-laid out, easy to use, and with a few clicks, you can check availability for a specific date for a specific type of lodging preference.”

The lodging association was a catalyst for the creation of the Tourism Development Council funded primarily by transient lodging tax revenue collected by the Town of Floyd and Floyd County. The TDC then hired Floyd County’s first Tourism Director, Pat Sharkey. Association members have continued to be active with tourism development with its members serving on the Tourism Advisory Board. The association also had a visitor information kiosk made and installed just off the Parkway junction at Rt8 on the property of Tuggles Gap Restaurant and Motel, an association member.

Chamber members who are members of the Floyd Lodging Association include: Ambrosia Farm B&B, Bella La Vita Inn, Bent Mountain Lodge B&B, Chantilly Farm, Chestnut Ridge Farm, The Cottage on Main, Floyd EcoVillage, Floyd Yurt Lodging, Historic Pine Tavern Lodge, Hotel Floyd, Little River B&B, Mountain Rose Inn, Mountain Song Inn, Oak Haven Lodge, Living Light River Studio B&B, Stoney Meadow Inn B&B, and Woodberry Inn. To find out more about association membership, contact Lisal Kayati Roberts, Bella La Vita Inn at bellalavitainn@live.com

The Chamber’s 2017 meeting schedule alternates each month between evening board meetings and membership-oriented lunchtime meetings, typically on the fourth Monday of each month. The Chamber board increased the frequency of the lunchtime meeting to allow members whose schedules do not permit them to attend evening meetings the opportunity to participate over lunch. The board business items are abbreviated at lunchtime meetings to include more time for presenting topics of general interest to the membership and for membership discussion.
