4/23: Empty Bowls

The tenth annual Empty Bowls Event will be held Sunday, April 23rd, from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm at the Floyd County High School. The event is a fundraiser for NRCA Floyd County Backpack Program which provides “at risk” children, including NRCA’s Head Start program and all the five county schools, with food items for the weekends during the school year.

Potters from Floyd County and the Blue Ridge Potter’s Guild out of Roanoke have generously donated handcrafted bowls for this fundraising event every year for the past ten years.  Choosing a bowl to keep is the highlight of the luncheon, along with a variety of homemade soups as well as fresh homemade bread, beverages, and cookies.  All items for the event are donated and all proceeds are used to fight childhood hunger in our county’s children.  Come and join us for a fun community gathering and check out the Silent Auction table!

Entertainment will be provided by two local string bands. First is the “Fork Mountain Ramblers” featuring Mindy DeCesar on fiddle, Jeff Liverman on guitar and Tom DeCesar on banjo. Second to perform is the “Earl White string band” with Earl White on fiddle, Adrienne Davis on guitar, Jason Dilge on banjo and Gina Dilge on fiddle.

Adult tickets are $15.00 in advance, $18.00 at the door, children’s tickets for ages 6-12 are $5.00, and under age five are free. Tickets are available at NRCA’s Office at 323 Floyd Highway S., Floyd, VA; Floyd Center for the Arts (formerly the Jacksonville Center); Bell Gallery; Floyd Pharmacy (front counter) and the Floyd County Visitor Center/ Chamber of Commerce.
