$400K Awarded for Wastewater Treatment
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $400,000 to Virginia Tech for a wastewater pilot project, which will advance work in detecting pathogens in wastewater in rural communities. To that end, Virginia Tech will work with treatment plants in two communities in Lee County and two communities in Wise County, Virginia. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“ARC’s grant of $400,000 will help Virginia Tech expand their work to detect pathogens in wastewater from rural communities. This work is aimed at improving our country’s public health through better community health monitoring and outbreak forecasting.”

I hope they get this started quickly. I’ve been reporting my water issues to PSA in Jonesville, VA begging them to test my water. It literally smells & tastes like death. I hate the fact that dishes, clothes and even us taking showers & I forgot about laundry as well have to use to use PSA water. I don’t know why I expected them to get in any kind of rush especially considering they dislike me anyways because I stood up for myself when I bought this house & the previous owners wife called them & told them I was squatter living here illegally and had the water & power turned off to my home. The electric company restored power immediately when I called & asked why they cut my power and they told me it had been requested to do so by Marilyn Murphy Smith. They were very professional, apologized and said if they had known it was me here they wouldn’t have cut it but they were told it was a squatter. They were aware of the fact I had purchased the home and they thought maybe I hadn’t moved in yet & since I worked for Mrs. Smith & her husband for over 10yrs they thought she was just looking out for me. I was treated kindly by PVEC, PSA however were rude, disrespectful & it took me a little over 2wks just to get our water back on and this is even when COVID restrictions were in place & no utilities were to be cut for any reason but upon the request from Marilyn Murphy Smith they not only cut my water but refused to allow me to pay to have it cut back on. I had 2 teenage girls that were placed in my home for temporary custody as well. I had to go through the court system and it was Meredith Brooks & Donna Kobb that made PSA do their job. I am still waiting on reimbursement for all of that plus the 55,000 gallons of water they charged me for because apparently the Smiths were illegally tapped into my meter & they cut their line & all that water went straight into the PayLake. PSA in Jonesville, VA is the worst water company I’ve ever had to deal with & just because Mr. Smith use to sign all of Scott Shorts checks they treated me very unkind and inhumane. They literally cut my utilities in the middle of a pandemic & I had 2 teenage girls social services put in my home because of emergency reasons. PSA should be held accountable for their actions but they probably won’t be made to do so because I’ve spoken to our Commonweath Attorney & the State Police about all the forged documents that Marilyn Murphy Smith & her attorney have done. I’ve got it all laid out for them and they told me they don’t investigate stuff like that unless an attorney brings it to their attention so they told me to hire an attorney but I thought that was the Commomwealth Attorneys job as well as the State Police but apparently not in Lee County, VA. Just saying
