3/3: Acrylic painting workshop

Learn to make a painting using acrylic paint and support a local group that pays to do laundry for our neighbors who need a little help having clean clothes. Glade Church in Blacksburg is offering an art workshop on acrylic painting led by Michele Walter, a local artist. A $35 donation ($40 on day of workshop) to support Laundry Love covers all the equipment needed to complete your own acrylic painting. The workshop is Saturday, March 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Glade Church located at 1600 Glade Road in Blacksburg.

Growing up in Franklin County, and into a family that relished experiencing life in the outdoors, Michele Walter employs an easy integration of family life within the natural settings of the mountains, trails, rivers, and pastures with which she is so familiar into her art.

Michele’s artwork beckons us to not only remember but to genuinely reflect upon these good things in life. Whether a viewer is experiencing a watercolor landscape, a pencil portrait, or possibly an acrylic fanciful animal, Michele’s gift of evoking a happy resonance within the viewer cannot be understated.

A portrait of her cat, Tiger, won Michele a first-place award in the Fincastle Art Show at the tender age of seven.

Currently residing in the New River Valley, still close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Michele is a member of the Blacksburg Regional Art Association and the Virginia Watercolor Society. Samples of her art are on her website at michelewalterart.com.

Laundry Love is a community service provided by Glade Church and friends that pays to do laundry on the first Thursday of each month from 5-7 p.m., and the third Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the EZ Way Laundromat located at 1200 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg.
