12/15: Radford Food Box Distribution
Feeding Southwest Virginia (Feeding SWVA) will hold two Community Mobile Food Distributions, one in Wytheville and the other in Radford. The distributions will offer approximately 15-pound holiday boxes filled with holiday-inspired food like chicken stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, and corn muffin mix.
These holiday boxes will be first come, first served and offered as long as they are available. There will be no income qualifications to receive a box.
Recent USDA reports indicate a surge in the overall U.S. food insecurity rate, reaching the highest since 2014. Southwest Virginia, served by Feeding SWVA, has experienced higher percentages than the rest of the state. The food insecurity rate in Wythe County is 11.9%, while in Montgomery County, it is 10.6%, exceeding the state average of 8.1%. At each site, we will distribute approximately 500 holiday food boxes to neighbors who need food assistance.
In Radford, Feeding SWVA partnered with the Radford Police Department and New River Community Action. New River Community Action is a non-profit that works in Southwest Virginia with the community’s most vulnerable residents, including the homeless, ex-offenders, people with disabilities, and struggling young families.
