12/15: Mobile Food Distribution

Feeding Southwest Virginia (Feeding SWVA) will hold a Community Mobile Food Distribution in Radford on Friday, December 15 from 3:00-5:00 pm. The distribution will offer approximately 15-pound holiday boxes filled with holiday-inspired food like chicken stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, and corn muffin mix. These holiday boxes will be first come, first served and offered as long as they are available. There will be no income qualifications to receive a box.

The Radford City Police Department is excited to partner with New River Community Action and Feeding Southwest Virginia to bring this Mobile Distribution Site to address food insecurity. Chief Holdaway said, “The Radford City Police Department is excited for the opportunity to give back to our community this holiday season. I commend Sergeant Hite and the Community Engagement Unit for their work on this community event and dedication to the citizens of Radford.”

Recent USDA reports indicate a surge in the overall U.S. food insecurity rate, reaching the highest since 2014. Southwest Virginia, served by Feeding SWVA, has experienced higher percentages than the rest of the state. The mobile distribution site will distribute approximately 500 holiday food boxes to neighbors who need food assistance.

Feeding Southwest Virginia alone channels over $30.6 million in food and groceries through 266 partner feeding programs in its 26-county, nine-city region.

Plan to stop by on Friday, December 15 from 3:00-5:00 in the Central Lumber Parking Lot, located at 725 West Main Street to pick up a holiday box.
